I know their are very good people to buy eggs from and some bad as well. I recently purchased eggs from a member okcarla. She sent additional eggs in case of damage. They eggs were packaged very well. Upon receiving eggs I had 13 broken and was shorted the eggs I paid for. After numerous emails and photos of the damage she finally agreed to send more eggs. But at full shipping price. I said I would pay half and :(denied my request. If I received damaged goods in the mail why should I have to pay to have them replaced. It wasn't my fault. Maybe I should do more research on who I order from next time.

I've never bought eggs, but if she packaged them well and there were extra, it seems like she made good effort.

I think this is a risk we take when buying and selling eggs.

I don't know this member but if the eggs were packaged well it wasn't her fault either. It seems more than fair for her to ask for shipping as she was sending you more eggs free. That is the risk of shipping eggs - you can never guarantee that the PO will be gentle. Now, if you were saying that she didn't send you all the eggs you paid for that is something totally different. There is a feedback system here that you should post your feedback in.

Did you get a guarantee on the eggs? It sounds to me that she packages the eggs good you even said so yourself. It sounds to me like she is being more than fair.....

Okcarla ??????......Whoa.....This is one of the most reputable
suppliers you could ever hope to deal with. You say that she
sent you "extras" to begin with.....most don't, or send you 2 or
3. And, you, obviously, don't have any problem with her
"shipping" efforts. That's all a supplier can be asked for.

Is there not a USPS "forum" somewhere ????????????? Ya know,
there is "recourse" for slander...........

Have a good one !

I guess I should attempt to defend myself. Oden010 purchased 20 turkey eggs at $2.50 each and I sent him 29 eggs. My husband, The Egg Man, individually wraps all our eggs that we mail out to people in a napkin, and then a 6 X 12 piece of bubble wrap, and then tapes the eggs together so that they can not bump into each other, and then the eggs are surrounded in large bubble wrap. Of the 100's of boxes of eggs that we have sent out on eBay and Backyardchickens, I have only received a couple of replies that an egg was cracked. I have a 100% feedback rating on eBay and have had many people here on Backyardchickens comment on our packing and the excellent fertility of our eggs.

This incident is the first time I have received a complaint from anyone regarding the eggs we sell and mail out. Here is the unedited messages from him and my replies:

He sent me a picture of 12 broken eggs, but not with the top of the eggs showing with our markings as I requested.

He filed a paypal dispute yesterday and is requesting a $20 refund now.

It is really sad ... I have been very nice to this person, and offered to replace the eggs and send a few extras ... I would have even sent more extras than I said I would ... but he thinks the broken eggs are my fault and I should pay for them

Anyway, it is now in the hands of paypal.

The guy is a whack job. You did what you were supposed to, your questions were not unreasonable, and he copped an attitude. It does look like the box had something heavy put on it....which would be a SHIPPING problem, not a PRODUCT problem.

As a buyer and a seller I think okcarla has been and is being very fair!! I also have replaced broken eggs, eggs that had a poor hatch rate and always I ask for the shipping of the replacement eggs. That is only fair to the seller you cannot control the climate or handeling of eggs once they leave your hands .

I am closing this now since it has become a flamefest. I sell hatching eggs. I, nor Okcarla, nor any other seller, is responsible for damage during transit if the item was packed with care, as I do and I know she does. I have sent free eggs to folks just because they had incubator issues, but not because it was demanded, but because I wanted them to succeed. I did not have any obligation to do so and cannot afford to take too many $$$ hits since we pretty much make nothing on hatching eggs anyway, most of the time. We are not some big company making millions of bucks. The seller is responsible for sending eggs she/he is reasonably certain are fertile, packing them well, and sending them on time. Period. Extras are just that, extras to offset shipping damage, not an entitlement. Shipped eggs are a gamble, always.
