So this weekend I rescued/took in my boxers brother. Poor guy is about 15 pounds underweight, has sores on his legs and backs of his thighs from being kept outside in below zero weather in a kennel kept on cement. One of these sores is infected. So he is on antibiotics. Then upon inspection we found his tail was improperly docked. The vet explained that they seemed to have cut through the bone instead of the joint/or inbetween the vertebrae. Found out from previous owner the dog has had issues with his tail from day one. Chewing on it and what not. There is no hair on the end of his stump and a scab on the bottom. So far I've spent $170 on vet bills and about $80 on an indoor kennel/crate for him. In the future....near future he is going to have to have his tail redocked. I'm paying for that also. I took in my uncles cat in january after he passed and have spent over $300 on him. Plus getting the barn/outside/stray/dumps/you get the point vaccinated and fixed...we won't even go there on price

Then this last week ended up taking one of the barn cats in for a tail amputation because he must have got his tail somewhere it didn't belong and broke it. Nice huh? Then on friday he mananged to pull or pop 4 stitches...so back in we went for staples.

You are that poor dog's hero!! How in the world could someone manage to cut through the bone

, its very easy to feel the vertebrae in the tail. Thank you for taking in, caring for/loving/healing those animals!!!

I honestly wonder if because he is a white boxer that the vet/breeder at the time maybe didn't really care about him? I know some breeders really dislike white boxers. I've never met the breeder or that vet so I don't know. Just a guess?

White boxers are not allowed in the standard. They're generally culled at birth... so I'd say in the breeders defence, he cared enough to let the dog live. And when they're 3 days old, it isn't always easy to feel the joints (esp that close to the rump), plus the pup could have wiggled at the wrong moment.... you never know. I've cropped a few tails and it's not that easy!

As far as taking the dog in and all your efforts to care for them I applaud you!
