I've been giving my 3 week old chicks (Rhode Island Reds) some grass and weeds from the yard to freshen up their Chicken Palace of hardware cloth. They love the seeds on my peskiest weeds and scratch around in the litter and nestle down in the leftover stems to rest.

This morning I was picking some fresh greens, and I got some rose petals that had fallen off my large climbing rose bush. WOW

They went crazy over the petals! They shredded them up with their beaks and ATE them up! And of course fought over them. I gave them more, and it sure makes the cage (I mean Palace) smell better. Rose petals are edible for humans, so I'm not worried about that. Now they have a bed of roses to lie around in!
Soon they will be moving to a 10' x 10' pen with a lovely roost and laying boxes.
