What should I use? I've heard paper towels but I want to make sure. My brooder has a plywood floor.

I've had really good luck with puppy pads down first, then a layer of paper towels. Makes for easy clean up without replacing the pads all the time. After about the first week or so then shavings replace the paper towel.

Yup, paper towel is a great option for chicks--it keeps them from getting distracted from what the real food is! What I've done is put down the bedding that I am going to use in the brooder (ie. wood shavings) and then place the paper towel on top. This provides a more comfortable ground then if you were to just place the paper towel on the bottom of the brooder.
Good luck and have fun!!
