Bedding for Turkey Poults (or chicks)

I had a customer call me about poults dieing and their faces getting all puffy. After they took out the bedding that they bought from TSC, the poults stopped dieing and their puffy faces went down.

I have switched to sand for my turkeys quail and chickens this year and really like it. Another thing to look for for starter is pheasent feed, its also very high protien.

I live on a sand dune so I have always used sand for all of my poultry without any ill effects. I also have never needed to buy grit for my poultry. If a larger size grit is needed I go raid the ant hills.

When my turkeys were little I lined the bottom of their enclosure with doggie pee pads. They couldn't peck them apart and was easy to keep clean. My turkeys have all grown up, and now I use eco flakes. Very easy to keep their night time bed space clean.

I use large towels too. Easy to clean. Just roll one up and the other out at the same time while moving water feed and chicks onto the fresh towel. Then a good shake out and into the washer with rags. Easy peasy chickletts.
