Hi I’m new to keeping quail and I have hung the drinker from a chain with about a inch clearance from the floor but constantly have to change the water as there is always bedding in there when I check on them. My question is how much clearance from the floor should the bottom of the drinker be or is bedding in there just a normal thing

Its kind of normal, sorry hun! They just kick it and kick it and some always lands in there. How old are your quail? You might be able to try lifting it up slightly more and see if that helps if theyre old/large enough.

I put my drinker in a corner with no bedding around it and elevated on two bricks. This helps if they’re big enough to climb onto the bricks to drink. It’s hard if you have a smaller cage though.

The drinker should be at the level of their backs. I have put drinkers on a piece of 2x6 covered in newspaper big enough for chicks to stand on and drink. Change the paper when it gets poopy. I have also put an about 3” diameter x 6” long chunk of tree branch next to watered so chicks can jump up to get a drink. What are you using for bedding. For indoor chicks >3 weeks old I switched to pine pellets which don’t float up to the waterer quite so bad.
