Bedding material for the run??? HELP!

I have an a frame coop and underneath the coop house part is a small 6x9 ft run. I need help with what to cover the under area with. Right now it is slightly grassy but it is hard to clean out the poo and sometimes there is mold growing under the waterer. It is a pain so I'm thinking of covering it with sand. Any thoughts??

Sand can definitely work...construction grade, like Quikrete from Home Depot. You could also use pine shavings out there and employ a sort of deep litter in the run. (If you do that, though, make sure to have a dust bath area.)

I'm very surprised your chickens haven't killed all the grass yet!
