Bedding question

Aspen Isnt A Hardwood. Its In The Same Family As Pine And Cedar But Has A Higher Hardness Than The Other 2.... And Less Fumes, Dust And Toxic Properties. Personally I Have A Stack Of Old Hospital Towels That They Start Out On, After The 1st Week I Use Plain Old (dare I Say It?) Newspaper---not Shreded, Just Line The Botoom Of The Brooder Then Once A Week It Gets Thrown Out And The Brooder Gets A Bleach Soak For 30 Min Or So Then New Newspaper--- After They Are 1 Week Old The Ligaments In Their Hip And Leg Joints Have Tightened And They Are Not Prone To Spraddle Leg Then....

This is the way I see it. Quail chicks (Bob/CotX) should be able to stand on pretty much any surface at a week old. News paper, and even 1/2" HWC. Over the winter break, I'm going to try to build my version of the $200+ commercial brooder, with 1/2" HWC. If successful, I will line the wire with paper towels, used hospital towels, rubber shelf liner, or what ever works for me. After one week....straight to wire.
I just wish I could get a good look at the brooder in question.

If unsuccessful, then I will do a 3-4 day paper towel/shelf liner, then straight to pine litter.

I really don't like debating or even using wood litter.
