hi me again, we got the ducklings in a bigger pen and they look like they are trying to eat the pine shavings... should I keep using towels instead? I don't know what to do

Use hay or straw with a layer of sand or soil under it

Ours sometimes will eat them, but with enough feed available it does not seem to be an issue. IIRC hay isn't the best (Dust) so you could use straw. Straw isn't absorbent though. This is assuming they are in the brooder stage still.

We tried straw they ate it we have other ducks and the vet literally pulled a piece of straw out of one of their throats so I try to avoid that now. Our other ducks use the pine shavings, so I was hoping that would work for the ducklings. The towels situation is causing an enormous amount of laundry.

What about when they are older and have to go outside? Can I still use the bedding that my other ducks are using ?

Once they are older, they usually get a sense of what to eat and what not to, usually, this is only a problem with young birds.
