Bedtime Routine?

onight I went to close them up sometime after 8 and no one was ready at all!

Wait until it's dark...which is about 9:30 here these days.
If they haven't gone up at least they are easier to catch then.

I would, but I have coyotes on the property - have seen them within 100 yards of where the coop is. Just sitting in the open staring at me and my spouse.

The coop and run are very secure

Is why I suggested it.

Our year-old hens and roo put themselves to bed about half an hour earlier than our 15-week old pullets and cockerels. Those young-'uns want to stay up late and party hardy, chasing bugs till the last glimmer of light is almost gone from the sky, seems like. Young fools. Chasing them into the run and/or coop is a fool's errand, they go in when they are good and ready. Perhaps luring them in with a bit of scratch or other treats might help? Haven't tried it here, we don't have OP's problem with coyotes so is not a big deal. Good luck, though!
