Just recently acquired chickens again. Had 5 in my backyard shed, with a small fenced in area. I thought they were safe. Well, apparently they weren't. Something got in there and ate the heads off of 4 of them. #5 chicken managed to escape. She is now an indoor chicken. She is a 2 month old Australorp.

My major problem now, at 4 am on a Sun morn, is my 11 year old pup is sick. I suspect from eating chicken feed. Her belly is bloated, and she's been vomiting. I haven't been able to keep her little nose out of the chicken feed. Everytime I turn around, there she is! She's vomited about 4 times over the course of the night. And her belly still seems bloated. My other two dogs haven't had any problems, although I have also caught them poking their noses through the open door of my chicken's birdcage, also trying to get to the feed.

She has been drinking water, so I'm hoping she is staying hydrated and flushing her system. But wondering if there is anything I can give her?

It would be wise to keep the dogs away from the chicken feed. If they are known to eat it, make sure they have no access to it.

Is she keeping water down?
She is. My daughter is a vet tech, and she looked her over. We both deemed Dora will be okay. She had emptied her belly. And yah, trying to keep all 3 dogs away from the feed is quite the battle!

My daughter also helped me make the chicken shed more secure, and we relocated the pen, putting chicken wire over the top, as well. My one last chicken is still sort of a house chicken. She has her bird cage, but the little stinker prefers sitting on the back of my couch with me and the dogs. Sometimes she'll perch on my knee or try to sit on my lap. (I have chicken proofed my couch and anywhere else Chickapea may set). For now, I allow this, because 1 chicken is a lonely chicken.

I intend to get more chicks but am afraid the season for babies is over. 😕 I will make the rounds to local hatcheries and check up on that when the shed is totally made safe. Hopefully before Fall hits. I am the only person here to do all the work, after all.

Maybe check your local Craigslist. I can always find at least a dozen chickens for sale at any given time on mine.

Glad your pup is doing better!
