Been gone for what seems like forever... reasons why

Sorry you got let go so sneakily, that was wrong on their behalf. They should have stuck to their word on taking you back.

But, what if they felt like you did....that you were part of the family and then saw that you were willing to dump them for the first better job that came along? Then after thinking it over, you decided they were good enough for a bit longer til something else came along. If I cared about someone and wanted them as a friend or coworker/employee, my feelings would be very hurt if I got thrown away for something better. I doubt I would be able to trust them or rely on them to be there for me. Although I would want the best for them, I would probably cut all ties before getting hurt again. There's always two sides....

Did you get the retraction in writing? I think submitting it in writing but then expecting to retract it not in writing is a bad assumption. Also the comment about being friends/ watching their kids etc.. is another assumption on your part. What's to protect them if another "good offer" comes along for you? You are expecting them to show you this loyalty but yet you didnt? I feel for you but I would never assume and especially if I was "friends" with a manager or employer to get special treatment. Always get something in writing when it comes to business to protect yourself and them.,Friends especially.. then there isnt any gray area or hard feelings. I think they could have explained it to you better. Maybe the supervisor accepted it from you verbally and found out that he couldnt . Yes I think they could have dealt with it better but I can't say i blame them for not accepting the retraction.

If you had come on here during this process and posted about your retraction, a huge majority here would have said to get it in writing.

Good luck , this may open a lot of doors for you for another better opportunity. Keep your mind open and positive, it will help you when looking for a job. Is that other job still open?
Maybe it's the right one for you after all?

The best advice I have for you is to not burn your bridges with this company. Stay positive about them and it's possible you may be rehired someday if you want to be.

When I applied for my current job, I was the runner-up for it. I was the runner-up for another job with this department. Image my frustration. Fast-forward 6 months. I was on the short-list for another job with the same employer, so contacted the woman who is now my boss and asked if she knew the hiring director for the other job. She called me and offered me the job for which I'd been runner-up instead. Why? The person who was hired tendered her resignation on the same day I emailed about the short-list. Because of HR rules, my boss was able to hire me outright without re-posting the job.

You never know who is reading the internet, who may be hiring/firing on any given day, or where your next opportunity may arise.

Good luck to you.
