Two days ago I found an egg in the backyard under a lilac sapling. No nest to be found though I searched high and low for one. There ARE some invasive doves nesting in the neighbor's yard nearby, but their nest is maybe 20 ft away and at least 25 ft into the tree.
Anyway I put the egg in an incubator and for a moment it appeared to be veining, but then I woke up yesterday and the power was out and the veins had receded. The power was out for about 3-4 hours before I could fix it. Now I see a vague "bean" shape inside the egg but zero veins. When I tilt the egg, everything is free floating and moves with the tilt. Also the top of the egg is completely see through, but I guess that could be because the eggshell is extremely thin?
The egg is about 48 hours into incubating now, and like I said I am fairly certain it is dead, but I would like a second opinion.
