So, we had this silkie hen in a cage to rehabilitate and we had nice eggs around the coop where the girls were laying then they went missing. All eyes onto the chickens. Not until we discover the eyes of my "baby" silkie is missing along with its brains do we finally conclude it's a weasel. Either that or it's a rat. What do you think and how do you think we will capture this *bad word that should never be said*?

I use the wooden snap traps but I put them in a "weasel box" just in case I catch a weasel the more common rat here is a wharf rat it is roughly twice the size of a norway rat I use a conibear 120 set in their travel ways to dispatch them with. I also use lye put in their runways I have not seen any for about a week now

A weasel box properly constructed (needs to have a little additional shielding than normal so Ms Prissy and Foghorn can't get their heads where they shouldn't be) is both chicken safe and weasel dispatching.

ETA: Usually you try to prep the weasel box by enticing mice to lay a mouse piddle trail into the trap by baiting it with seeds, then you get some nice bloody chicken livers and smear some of that towards the back of the box just after where you put the modified victor rat trap, set the trap place in the box and visit regularly. Weasels eat mice and will follow the trail to the trap and then their blood lust will take over , in they go, snap goes the trap, scratch one weasel.
