beer grain?

My friend makes beer and uses barley to make that beer.........
he was telling me that the barley that is left over is good for chickens.

What are your thoughts, I got some from him to feed to the chickens.

I thought by the smell that most chicken layer was biproduct from distilleries.

I would say it wouldn't hurt them. I went to the Jack Daniels distillery a few years back and they said that they sell the left over grain that they have to feed mills. They use it in cattle feed.

The Spent Grains will he high in protein, but it is NOT balanced protein. It will be deficient in Lysine. Using it as a treat may be appropriate, but use judiciously as you don't want the birds to have an Amino Acid imbalance.
