I have a huge bee hive in a tree that was cut down. Is there anyway I can save it? It's still in the middle of the tree, just up inside the trunk, and laying on it's side. Are there any bee keepers on this board?

A beekeeper in your area may be able to get the bees out of the trunk and give them a better home (assuming they can't stay in the trunk for whatever reason). I assume you don't want the hive where it is right now? You might want to contact a local beekeeper for advice. They are usually at least willing to talk to you about it.

check with ag agent for your county they should be able to give you the name of someone that would be willing to collect the hive. might also be a bee keeping club in your area and they will be able to get you a name of someone to contact. There has been a big loss of hives this year so I would bet someone will come get it. I could do it but dont know where you are.

is it an established hive or is it just a swarm(only been there for a little while) It its establiched it will have to be removed, if it is just a swarm it will probably go away once workers find a suitable spot to set up hive. If it is a swarm, the quicker you can get someone out there the better.

Do you keep bees, Marlinchaser? I'm interested in doing that some day soon. We have a swarm that started in our barn this summer. We don't know if they will survive the winter, but if they do we hope we can give them a new entrance to their hive, because right now they are coming out into an old horse stall that we want to keep ducks in.
