Working on building our chicken coop, which is made from a renovated built-on-site playhouse (8x8). Went to work on it today and found the inside roof SWARMED with honey bees attempting to gain access to the roof, I really think they are attempting to build a new nest there! I had seen more bees around than normal lately, which makes me think they've been scouting the area.

I really don't want to kill them, but the local live bee removal services wanted $480!!! There is NO WAY I can afford that!! Is there anyway to discourage them, besides hope hope hoping they go away??

I am so worried right now! We were almost done building and then this happens :/

I live in Dunnellon Florida if there just happens to be ANYONE local that would be willing to help!!

Call a local beekeeper and they would happy to come and gather the swarm for you! You get rid of the bees, and they get a new hive. They are very good about that. Let us know how it works out!

Call the local fire and police departments and the local State Agricultural Extension Service. They often have a list of local beekeepers or beeks, and local beekeeping clubs. If this fails log on to beesource.com or beemaster.com and look under their listed local and state beekeepers. If the bees have not yet established a colony in the former playhouse any local beekeeper should take the swarm off your hands for free, and hopefully they'll even give you a quart of honey this fall.

Once the swarm has moved in and started to raise brood then it becomes much much harder to remove.

Mix up warm water and sugar in a sprayer. Spray the swarm down and they become docile, fixated on ingesting the sugar. Scoop them into a bucket or container with a lid, and relocate them while you have time to destroy and remove the foundation they built. Since you likely don't know any apiarists who may be interested in the swarm, this would be the best route if you aren't allergic to bee stings and don't want to spend money on removal.
