Does anyone know why my chickens (who eat almost everything) look at beet greens like they aren't even food? I'm very curious!

Just like people, sometimes we like something and sometimes we dont.

mine are DESTROYING my whole little crop of beets... Go figure!

Last year when I let my dominiques into the garden for the fall cleanup they didn't touch the beets.
This year, the speckled sussex shredded the leaves.

Mine don't get the beet greens. They are my wife's favorite greens. I'd be in serious trouble if I fed them to the chickens.

When I was feeding mine cabbage and broccoli leaves, lettuce, kale, and chard, they would not touch the New Zealand spinach. When the New Zealand spinach was the only greens coming out of the garden, they loved it.

All very interesting...I'd be tempted to think it's oxalic acid...except that they eat oxalis (one of their most endearing traits). Thanks, everyone, for the posts.
