Beetles in Stock (Mealworms mid October)

I only have one roo and one hen but my sweet roo is losing weight and is going through a really rough molt. I am hoping mealworms will perk him up so he can be strong and healthy and so am very eager to get him some.

It will take quite some time to go through 1000 mealworms so I may give some away to another person with chickens so the mealworms are able to be 'utilized' while still in good shape. If I get the starter kit, how long before there are more mealworms (as I will be in no hurry, given only 2 birds)? Or is it better for me to just get the 1000 mealworms only for now....and then more later on.....

If you give the 50 (60 including 20% overcount) beetles proper care and feeding, they should yield 3000 or 4000 mealworms in a couple months. In the meanwhile you can feed the 1000 to you rooster and hen. They could easily eat 25+ a day, which would therefore last 40 days or so (if you don't give any away).

Thank you, Sillybirds - I recieved my mealworms/beatles today. I have to admit, I'm one of those people who is terrified of worms and so I was really scared to open the package. I'd been doing a lot of research and thought I was going to be able to handle dealing with the worms, but once the box was right in front of me...I needed to take several deep breaths before opening it. Luckily, everything went well and I was able to get the worms and beatles into their respective new homes without a heart attack. I even managed to collect up some worms to feed to my chicks and they loved them! That made it all worth it. ::sigh:: what I put myself through for these chickens...even I don't understand...

It sure doesn't seem like a lot of mealworms/beatles now that they are all settled into their homes...just looking at them now, I can't imagine having too many of them - it seems like the chicks eat a bunch and want more - they'd prolly eat up the whole 1000 worms and beg for more!

Once your beetles get your next generation going, then you can be more generous with your feedings. I'll have a lot more mealworms available late next month, too, if you want to order more.

Got my mealworms today!! They were packaged really well!! Thanks for the screen for the lid cover!! Kept me from having to poke holes by hand.. LOL
