Before and after....

Last week I posted about my coop. I worked all weekend to make a large brooder for the chicks.
This is the result. I have a picture from before and after. I build the roosts above the brooder. And recycled the old roosts and made a ladder with it. Maybe I want to add sand under the roosts for easy clean up. And I want to do some more staining and modify the water supply. Chickens keep kicking bedding in there. I am also thinking about adding a second feeder, so it won;t get to crowded at feeding time.

Today I opened the brooder door to give the chicks an opportunity to be with the adult hens. So far everybody seems happy. I opened the door just far enough for the chicks to get through, but the adults cannot. If they are all living happily together I can start using the brooder for the six younger chicks.

I don't have much experience with chickens behaviour and sort but I think the space is be8ng well used...

As long as you have a poop board under the roost, that’s an excellent use of space. I use a mixture of sand & PDZ on my poop board, it makes cleanup easier. I just scoop it up with a kitty litter scoop. Great job on the remodel!

Thank you I had to look up PDZ, but that is a great tip to mix that with sand. I will make a trip to Tractor Supply and Home Depot today and add it to the coop this weekend.

I also use PDZ only but mixing it with some sand should work and sand is cheaper than PDZ. May have to try
