Beginner Breed?

I have a local breeder that will sell me Cornish chicks for 3 dollars each???? Any one have experience with them?

What is your purpose? And are they cornish or cornish cross?

If you want exhibition, cornish are fine (but probably not at $3 per chick), cornish cross, not.

If you want layers, not so fine, unless you only want a few eggs; cornish cross are not likely to live long enough to lay.

If you want meat, cornish and cornish cross are fine.

Yes ive read that they eat like crazy because they are for meat. Don't think il be buying those...............I want eggs and saving on feed prices.

It also depends where you live, I have Buff Orps, Australorps, and Easter Eggers because they're calm and they can handle NY winters.

So cornish can handle harsh winters? Thats definately a quality i need becuase i live in Canada.

Try looking at some buckeyes...I hear they are cold hardy and are fair layers.
