Defiantly make sure your hens have calcium.

Great to have you join!

Sorry for your losses - unfortunately everything loves to eat chicken. A secure outdoor run with covered top should prevent some of the attacks. There are predators on the ground that can tunnel under, slip through openings in wire, etc. - fox, coyote, opossum, raccoons, skunks, even snakes and rodents. You might want to check out the predator section of BYC.

Thanks y'all. I got a call that m chicks I oreded yesterday won't be ready until March 12. Dang...I couldn't wait to get em n now have to wait even longer.....ughhh!

My chicks have arrived!! Oh my goodnes..could this box of chicks be any cuter! Question for yall...can I put these new chicks in with the three copper marans that are a little older? I don't want them to kill any of the new chicks. They were pecking them but then again the baby chicks were pecking each other too.

Congratulations on the new chicks :ya they are adorable!
If I am going to add batches of chicks together, I usually keep new chicks separate for a few days to be sure they are all doing well, just easier for me. Usually you are OK with about a two week difference, if those are the Marans in the top left picture they don't look that much older ... with only three older chicks, as long as the Marans aren't really picking on the younger ones and as long as all the other chicks are doing fine ... eating and drinking and have recovered from being shipped... I'd keep them together, a lot easier to integrate them now than later. Be sure you have plenty of room in your brooder box, that many chicks will take up a lot of room fast!

Thank you! I added the 3 marans back with the chicks. Chickens can be so mean to each other and I had one time where one of my chicks killed another one of my chicks in a nasty way I want say. I just wanted them to all have the best chance. My husband is going to build one big coop with a run and get rid of the small brooder and our existing coop with 9 adults.
