Hello everyone,

My hens have just begun to lay eggs and I have some questions:

1. How long can an egg be out in the nesting box at temperatures up to 110 degrees Fahrenheit?

2. How long can an egg last in the fridge?

Thanks for the help!

In hot weather, you want to collect them at least a couple times a day. If you wrap the cartons in plastic to preserve humidity, they can last about four months in the fridge, otherwise, I think maybe 5-6 weeks, but I never have mine that long. The longer they are in the fridge, the more like anemic grocery store eggs they'll taste.

I live with temperatures like that, we are currently in the mid eighties and rising. I collect mine twice a day, if I am in the coop for something else, then more often, but usually just twice a day.

I have not had any problems with that.

Twice a day here. They lay at very odd times and our weather is crazy.

Between 1-2 times a day. Mine lay in the late afternoon/early evening, except for 2, who lay in the morning. Right now its in the low teens and under at night but in the 30's during the day. We had sme serious freezing weather but the eggs managed to stay un-cracked. When its above freezing I collect once a day.
