My family has decided we want chickens for eggs and as pets. We have been researching coop designs and specification for a while. We are now ready to begin building a chicken tractor/coop and hopefully begin with 6 hens and maybe one rooster.
Welcome! It's great that you are planning ahead before buying the birds. There are lots of great ideas and instructions for coops here, I think under the 'articles' button. I hope you will find the website fun and useful.
Hello and welcome to BYC! Glad you joined.
Are you planning on raising chicks or adopting/buying started pullets?
If you want a cockerel/rooster, you may want to consider getting your girls up and laying and then looking for a cockerel/rooster that is friendly but not needed or wanted. There are LOTS of nice boys looking for new homes. This way you will avoid the girls being bred before they are really ready for it and you don't have to worry about a potential demon of a rooster developing from your adorable fluffy chick.
Welcome to BYC. As 'new' chicken owners you might want to hold off on adding a rooster to your flock until you are more experienced. Good luck in your flock establishment.
