Beginner's Hatch-A-Long

I'm on day 12. I candled tonight and on two of them I couldn't see veins or any movement. Just a large black dot. When should I take them out? I'm nervous of them exploding but I also do not want t o get rid of a good chick.

the yellow and black one is from the mystery tan egg
it has leg feathers, any idea what it could be?

the brown and black one is a ameraucana

As in there is just a very small dark area? Everything else is clear?

That would make me think you don't have a chick. Have you looked at candling pictures? The chick is pretty big by day 12.

If the egg doesn't smell at all, it probably won't pop, and you can wait until day 15, just to be sure you aren't seeing things wrong.

I have one last chick that is half way out of the shell. I have been slowly helping it along. When I was moving the membrane away from the head area that was poking out this morning I starting getting some blood again so moistened everything and back into the incubator. Hopefully he will make the last push and be out. Everybody else is in the brooder and looks to be doing pretty good. That makes 6 chicks out of the 18 that I bought on ebay. None of the other eggs look like anything is alive in them. I will try to get some baby chick pics later today. A couple of them of some crusty spots but they really don't like it when I try to get them wet and clean them up and I don't want to chill them too bad so I guess I will leave it alone and hope the other chicks don't mess with them too bad. I have a small box inside my brooder so I can separate them if they are getting picked on.

i had 2 chicks hatch last night! i got to watch one! the other was there when i woke up. there are 2 unzipping, a couple pipped and a few rocking! my humidity was low.. like 50% and I debated wether or not i should add water...i have had to add every day in this thing... i like the other incubator better!, anyway.. i decided to, since I had to leave for work, and i took the 2 babies out and put them in the brooder. mainly because with 20 eggs in there it seemed a little crowded and the one was just about dried...They were doing great when i left... this is going to be a long day!

ivy, i hope it gets out. sounds like you are doing what you can.

i ran home like the crazy nut i am at lunch time and there were 3 more hatched in the bator.. 2 zipping and 3 pips! both of the eggs with the detached air sac were pipped!, one that was zipping, was one of the shipped ones.. but its in the middle of the egg...so I think its a bad position.. we'll see when I get home! the marans are the only ones that have hatched any yet...

My last one made it out of the shell before I left for work and seemed to be doing ok, wobbling around as usual but he made it ok. I took this one a lot slower and I think he was better for it. Hope he is ready to come out of the incubator when I get home cause I want that stinky thing out of my basement! I don't see or hear anything in the rest of the eggs so I think it is all over with. I haven't lost any chicks so far, hope it stays that way.

My first babies! Mom is blue Ameraucana from Oregon spring swap, and dad is black Ameraucana. Set 7 eggs, only 2 were fertile. So tickled they both hatched! And excited that they are both blue!
