I've been reading all the posts about how folks chickens haven't laid for months. This is my first winter with chooks, and I have to say, I think I've been very lucky. Granted, I live in Central Virginia, which isn't exactly polar, but we have had some unusually cold weather, and tons more snow than usual. I have five pullets: two Black Cochins; a BO; a RIR/Production Red; and a White Leghorn, along with an EE rooster.
Here is today's haul:
I think the huge egg is from my RIR/Production Red. It weighs 95 grams, and it's the second one in two days over 90 grams! Here it is with yesterday's offering:
I'm averaging four eggs a day from my five pullets. Given that the cochins are "moderate" layers, I think that's pretty good! Not trying to brag, here (well, maybe a little
). Just marvelling at my good luck. I thank the "girls" everytime I collect eggs.
