I picked up some chicks today and one of them has been kind of lethargic. When it does walk, it walks backwards. Neither are really eating and drinking which concerns me, but the other chick is at least pecking at the ground and will drink when I dipped it's beak in. What do I do? It seemed fine at the feed store. She's gotten progressively worse (she was walking when we brought her home) and I'm getting really concerned. Thanks in advance.

ETA- I should add that she roosts on my finger just fine, has fairly good balance... she just kind of shuffles backwards, isn't eating/drinking, and is sleeping a lot. Her neck seems fine for now.

Yes it does sound like wry neck. I would start some vitamins (Vitamin B1 (thiamine, E, and selenium are most important.) If it gets to be a problem with the others, isolation with minmal noise ans stimulation may help temporarily. This may be hereditary or or from an injury to the head or neck. Update-

After a really long nap, she's fine now. I looked over and she was scratching around, walking, pecking, and acting fine. Should I still do the vitamins? What happened?

ETA- Forgot to add that I did not give vitamins yet.

Plain chick vitamins will not hurt your chicks, but if there are no more symptoms of wry neck, then there is no need to treat for it. I'm so glad she is fine now. Maybe she got hurt temporarily on the journey home.

Thanks :) She's been fine since... Not sure what happened. I'll keep those wry neck threads bookmarked just in case though. :)
