Beginning to hate irresponsible owners-advice

It' probably a good idea to take her temperature, to make sure she's not running a fever. A normal temp is 41- 45 Celsius (I think). Our vet prescribed clavamox when our hen needed antibiotics.

I hope she pulls through ♥.

I agree. It was disturbing that this person would allow her dogs to kill a chicken, a live animal. Why on earth would you let your pet torture another living animal. That's just sick. Not only that but letting the dog roam around killing other peoples chickens? She wouldn't be my friend. No offense.... I know that sounds mean but...... I'll leave it at that.

I would wash the chicken under warm water then dry her. You will be able to see the wounds better. The warm water may also be soothing to her. Even sticking her in a bath with epson salts in it would be helpful. I've noticed that chickens really don't mind them once they realize they won't get hurt. I too wouldn't do antibiotics. Chickens are amazing animals.

When my hen got deathly sick. How she is still alive I have no idea. Yes, that sick. I made a shake. I put in some baby chick starter grower, an egg, water in a blender and mixed it all together. The thickness of the shake depended on how she was doing. I fed her with a syringe and squirted the stuff down her throat. She had no choice but to eat. I also gave her Poly-Vi-Sol vitamins....... that works great! I diluted it with water and squirted what I could down her throat as well. She is still living in my kitchen since last Aug. She can't see and the other birds will try to kill her. She loves being around people. When she isn't she seems to get sick again. Go figure.

I hope your chicken does well.

I hope the chicken does well for you. I wonder what your friend will do when someone shoots her dog? It's not the dog's fault, but someone will rightfully shoot it during one of it's attacks.

I could never be friends with that type of person.... i'd be ranting in their face. Our friendship wouldnt last...

we had a dog attack one of our chickens and completely opened her up. I thought for sure we would lose her to infection, but 5 months later she is with the crew, You can still pick her out by the bump on her head. The spray that we used on her and all our animals is called Vetericyn. It is amazing!!! And you can use it for the family too. But it is a wound and infection treatment and you should be able to find at local feed\\farm supply. Good luck!

I've been friends with her for a long time. I wanted to scream at her believe me. I just encourage her to get rid of the dog or tie it up. She just doesnt get it and probably never will. They are not animal people, I mean they have animals but they are treated like animals- sometimes worse. They shouldnt even have any at all. It's very hard to not say something daily. We really havent gotten close except this year and some of the things I just cant believe how she is but I'm sure there are things about me that drive her nuts too. Believe me I'm just as angry as all of you.

She knew how much it hurt when a dog came to my house and killed my two chickens about 3 weeks ago. I mean I was crying and ranting about dogs and people not tying them up. I had hoped my rant would have made a difference for her

but then this.

The chicken is doing well. I looked again at the wound on her back and it looks good. She is missing a lot of feathers on the mid back but her neck and wing feathers pretty much cover it. I am going to wait on the bath until she scabs over more. I am going to place ointment on one more day and give her tylan for one more day also. She is still limping but I dont want to mess with her too much. It doesnt look swollen. I have her in a large dog crate so its like 36 x 48. She has been walking around here and there, eating enough, drinking still a good deal of water, I've changed her over from chick to layer feed. She seems to be eating more now that its layer. Its obvious she did not get any scraps. I've put apple, lettuce, eggs, strawberries and she has eaten none. She did try the eggs but only took 3 bites, then walked away. I'm hoping she tries the strawberries in there, they are really good

I put some scratch grain in a little container and spread some out because it seemed she wanted to "scratch" and find food but with her foot she cant. It cant support her weight well and she doesnt want to use it. She ate those little round balls that are in it

my chickens fav part too and she ate a few pieces of corn. I"m just trying to offer her lots of different things hoping she will pick a little of everything and be full. She's still pooping well so something is being eaten! I'll post a picture of her soon as I remember how. Its been a while.

Ok I think this is how its done. You can see the gray part. She is missing feathers under most of that area, her back up by her neck and she has no butt feathers. I see new ones coming in so I think she was molting anyway.
