Moved from California to Arkansas in 2016. Living on 11 acres starting slow with a heirloom garden. Planning to build a coop with a run. Hope get an heirloom breed that is dual purpose eggs/meat. The goal is to find chickens that still have their instincts intact. Able to free range and go broody and raise a clutch. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

That is awesome! I commend your efforts! Have you thought about ducks? They live longer, give bigger eggs, don't devour your garden, help with pest control, are adorable, etc. etc. Must I go on? Anyways, hope it works out for you! :fl:pop
Ducks live longer? Huh... pretty cool! ;)

(I will always prefer chickens though :plbb)
