So I have three ladies in the brooder who are three weeks old now and they just started an odd behavior that my other 6 didn't do when we had them in the brooder. They are scratching the pellets and breaking them and then rolling and making a hole to sit in and hang out. When I first saw it 'digging' I thought it was sick/broken and dying but upon inspection it was fine. Then the other two started doing it too...

So is this normal or do I have some weird ladies?

Several of mine do that with their bedding too. They are just dust bathing like the adults do.

Some of my layers like to dig holes in my yard...that was until I made them a special place to do their dust baths. I still get the occaional hole, but not nearly as bad as it was!
