I am new as a chicken owner, My chicks are 2 month old dominickers, why do they lay on their sides and ruffel and scratch sideways. I thought they may be cold but the temp is normal

Could they be having a dust bath? Thats the way mine look when they do. If they are laying in dirt/dust or bedding when they do it chances are they are having a dust bath.

Mine do this when dirtbathing OR, also, when sunbathing. They lay on their sides in the grass and lift the top wing to let the sun reach their "armpits." They have done this since they were chicks, the first time they went outside.
