behold my new invention. the chicken feeder.

1.jpg

i grew tired of wasting food. i tried the standard hanging feeder
and it was a disaster. the ladies would peck at the holes to eat
the corn and only the corn. i would go through 4-5 lbs of food
a day with three large chickens. when the feeder tray would fill
up, they would bill it all out until they could see the feeder holes
again, and then peck to get the corn.

it didn't seem to matter how high i hung the food. gromash,
layer rations, chick feed. they always went for the corn in the
feed.

basically, cut up some aluminum, riveted some aluminum, drilled
holes in some aluminum, bent some aluminum bar, and finally
took said aluminum and screwed it onto my old chick feeder.

one of the best things about the feeder is that it catches all the mess.
the ladies then eat that as well. i would like to thank jessica, fluffy lover,
and untrusting black-a-roni for demonstrating the chicken feeder.

and just in case you still feel short changed by all the photos and
boring lengthy explanation, here's a movie proving the effectiveness
of my new invention. i'm gonna make a million.

recognize, of course, that this is a prototype unit
that won't accurately reflect the true workmanship
and attention to details of the final production units.

figure i'll throw in some titanium and carbon fiber for
the youth marker as well. they'll be lining up.

how about $500 each, that way i can finish the addition
on my house.

When they start making the feed I want a couple. And by the way put that on PC's account!

edited to say:

I forgot..............nice feeder idea. Question? Do they climb up on top and poop inside the pan?

I usually throw the feed on the ground, but, they always single out the corn and ignore the rest. I tried using a chick feeder, they still just pick out the corn, and have even taken to flipping it over. I'd buy it, but I'm not handy enough with metal to make it myself.

i only have three yard eagles, so they don't compete too much for food.

not really their style to climb on the feeders. they poop on the picnic table and front stoop instead.

i forgot to mention, the actual chick feeder is mounted to the tray, which is attached to the legs.
so the whole assembly is fairly sturdy. so far able to withstand australorps and orpingtons.
