Sadly, our Australorps are going to join their Comet sisters at the free-range farm next week. One of them has become as aggressive as a rooster, and likely needs a rooster to help her sort things out. I'm not willing to leave the last Australorp alone, so they're going as a pair and we'll be chicken-less for a few months.Welcome fellow New Englander! Can't wait to see your beautiful yard and garden grow. Do you plan to add a couple more to the flock, or are your two content for now?
Since I planned on 4, this is giving me food for thought! What breeds will you explore this time around?Sadly, our Australorps are going to join their Comet sisters at the free-range farm next week. We'll be restarting in the spring with an improved pen, and some new breeds thanks to feedback from BYC. Definitely going with 6 this time instead of 4. It's too easy to lose chickens, and I don't want to end up in the same spot again.
As of right now, we’re going with Orpingtons. We probably would have been fine if we skipped the production reds (they’re mentioned in almost every feather picking thread), but we really wanted two guaranteed hens for our first round.
