I can't wait to read more on this site. Any tips for me? What is the earliest your hens started laying eggs? I read it can be as early as 19 weeks as long as they are happy ladies.

Unfortunately chickens don't come with a manual, but eventually they will train you up well. I do suggest you do some reading around BYC especially in our Learning Center, ask lots of questions.

As for when they lay, it depends on the breed, the production breeds can start laying at 5 months, other breeds such as Orpingtons will wait until 6+months to mature. Some breeds lay quite frequently others not as much.

The "super laying breeds "just tend to burn themselves out earlier, and often develop health conditions from it that shorten their lives.
