Benadryl for Dog with Allerigies??

I had a rescue dog that had allergies and my vet said that I could give her Benadryl and the dosage was 1mg per pound she was 26lbs so I gave her 25 mg and it worked perfect....I also bathed her in Selsun Blue.

I'm surprised at how many of us have dogs with these issues! Thanks for all your great advice and hopefully little Frankie will be feeling better very soon!

If there is a chance that it is fungal, have you tried Apple Cider Vinegar-either in drinking water and/or bathing water? Especially the organic, non-filtered kind with the "Mother."

Great. Try adding some salmon oil and a egg now and then.

You do feed meat with some bones too correct?

I also have a dog with allergies - my Husky gets the sores really bad on his back feet. Besides benadryl we would also wrap his back feet when we were at work or if we couldn't supervise him. We just used an old sock, and then taped it above his elbow. The sock was good because it didn't keep air out, but did keep him from chewing. You just need to make sure to change it regularly - and if possible get as much time with the socks off (as long as they're supervised).

We also used a bite not collar - its like a big neck brace, it does the same thing as an E collar, but its not so big.

Good luck with your little guy!

I have three labs, two of which have developed allergies and chew their feet. Our one is about 90 lbs and gets 4 benadryl a day. The other is around 55 lbs. He gets two a day. Check the dog's pads and check between his toes on the bottom of his paws. He probably has sores. Take some paper towel and soak it in hydrogen peroxide. Then, dry it off with a clean paper towel. Put some neosporin on the sores. Do this twice a day until they heal. This will help! I think my dogs are allergic to grass although the vet said the one has a food allergy. I don't think that's the case though because even switching to the recommended brands hasn't helped. It's just given them some pretty foul gas lol. Good luck!
