Bent toes on 2 week old quail

Hi, I have noticed a 2-week-old quail I have has bent toes. We have looked online about it and we are going to try a bootie to position the toes correctly. I'm hoping it's not too late to correct this... (Sorry I didn't notice until now. We got a bundle all at once and I didn't know anything was wrong as she is walking around fine just like the others. (My daughter noticed - she's good with details.) If any other advice...that would be welcome.

By this time you're probably not going to be able to fix it. One of those toes looks like it was broken and then healed badly.

She does straighten them by herself sometimes, so they don't always look like this. This is just when they look their worst. It couldn't be broken if she sometimes straightens them herself, right? The bootie didn't work - her toes were still curled to the side even though the position was right. So we strapped the toes instead. She's walking around fine with them so far.

We are thinking to keep on for two days then have a break so she can stretch it out and we observe the curling and how bent it still is...then maybe another two days if necessary...Anyway, giving it a go. She's walking around fine with the others atm and the strapping is holding.

We decided to give her a break today. And look! Her toes are so much better. She didn't bend them weirdly at all (while she walked around for about twenty minutes). We will be keeping her under observation. But so far so good. Just one day of strapping seemed to have helped a lot. Maybe she just had to strengthen her muscles in the right position for a while... Anyway we are very happy with her progress.

Just an update on this quail. Turns out this is a boy...and lovely. His bent toes would go back out of shape after an hour or so but not so badly. What we did was put the little strap bandages on his bent toes four times (for about a day) and then about a day break between each. After four times of bandages his toes are almost perfect and no more needing of bandage strapping (but it did take four times but worth it).

I'm glad to hear that his toes straightened out eventually. You probably don't want to breed him, though, in case it's genetic. You don't want to pass that trait on.
