beside myself

I agree with what everyone else said...
Make sure that the neighbour's friend knows what her dog did and reimburses you for aLL of the losses.
I hope you took pictures too documenting all the damage.
I'm so very sorry for your losses.
Not that it's easy to loose animals to predators, but at least you know that they're killed for food, not just for the heckuvit.

I'm so sorry, but go after them for payment. It's the very least they can do. And a dog off a leash on my property after my birds will be shot. Dont care whose dog, don't care why it's off leash, just plain dont care. Dead dog....and a big fat bill because here it costs about $20 to buy a pullet at point of lay times 13. You do the math.

***edited to say: perhaps I should rephrase this to say that is what she should tell them, or something along those lines, so that they understand that if the dog comes onto her property, he may not make it back. People should understand that there are consequences to their irresponsible actions as far as their dogs/cats go. That is my own attitude about roaming livestock killers, in any case.

I agree with speckled hen but last time I said that the thread got LOCKED

I have a suggestion. When you're aiming for the dog, aim a little over its head. Maybe its owner will be standing behind it!

We did not kill the dog that attacked our flock ( thankfully we did not lose any) we just made sure he was sent to a Amish community a few counties away. The owner's son kept letting him out on purpose and we got tired of calling animal control everyday so my DH took him for a little ride and let him go on a farm in Amish country,

There is no need to turn this into something it's not. We will not get into a tirade here that goes on and on about dogs. That is just what I do here, but not everyone needs to do what I do. My main point is that she needs monetary compensation and possibly to point out that the dog may meet its maker if it comes back onto the property so the people know there is more than one type of consequence. So, if it turns into that, it won't continue.
It's an awful thing to witness and it must be devastating to have to pick up the bodies of birds you loved all because of irresponsible people. I'm so sorry, but please ask for more than an apology from them.
