Besides My Pet Chicken, where else can I order a small quantity of chicks?

I'm only wanting 2 or 3 chicks, and have had success ordering from My Pet Chicken before, but they are "out" of the breed I want and there is no expected date of when they'll have more. Is there another company without a large minimum order?

By the way, I'm wanting a lavender orpington, blue orpington, and a blue Ameracauna. They are difficult to find locally.

Thanks!

Well, Meyer does small orders, buy Meyer is actually the hatchery that My Pet Chicken dropships from, so probably they don't have any. In the future, if you wanted to order right from Meyer instead of MPC, you'd save a few bucks and get the same chicks :) I don't think really any other hatcheries carry those breeds, so you're probably stuck with Meyer until they get them back in.

You might give this place a try. They have a 3 chick minimum order....http://www.chickensforbackyards.com/

I have never used them, however I have never heard anything negative about them either.

Have you tried local feed stores? Some of the smaller feed stores let you take as little as 1 chick if that is all you want.

Good luck finding some chicks!!

Thank you both. I'll check out what you suggested. The local feed stores here haven't had a large selection of breeds, but I keep looking.

Ideal does small orders. I ordered 8 little Hamburg chicks and they are charging just $2 for a heatpack and promising NO packing peanuts whatsoever. Total bill was only $43 with shipping.

Btw... You did not post your location. Often, there are local backyard breeders here that may have a few spare chicks for you. Backyard breeding for chickens, unlike dogs, can often be a GOOD thing. Hatcheries are like chick mills. Not that they are necessarily bad, but if you really want a special breed, they may not be the best route.

They did post what they are looking for, it is in their first post. They also said they've had no luck finding local breeders, unfortunately.

This is where i got my chicks from and was very pleased.

Thanks for all the replies. I've been checking local farms/breeders on Facebook, and Craigslist. No luck yet. I'll check Ideal, thanks. :)
