Bessemer Acres Homestead

It's nice of you to share your eggs! A lady I share mine with calls them "gold nuggets" haha. And she hides them from the rest of her family. 😂

Are you planning on getting milk goats? I'm a fan. I've got a few ruminants in my back yard.

Thanks for joining and telling us a big about yourself! I enjoyed it. Welcome to BackYard Chickens!
Yes, we plan on getting Milk goats, Alpine preferably. We used to share a lot more, but our chickens are molting right now with the weather bouncing to near zero at times and then back up to 60 other days. It has really changed their laying habits this year. I am sure they are stressed because of the cold too. This is one reason we want to change the type of chickens we have, as the Australorps should do better in the cold.

Just placed our order for 16 Australorp hens and 1 Australorp rooster, they will arrive in mid-February. We plan on keeping 4 of our Red Star hens to make 20 hens total. This was going to be a part of my original post but we were still making a decision on what to do. Basically we want to cycle out our chickens every 2 to 2 1/2 years regardless if they are still laying. And as mentioned to us, we will post in the appropriate forum when we re-home our current flock next late summer.

I did not get the pictures of our chickens today as I was really busy with work. I will try and get some pictures tomorrow after we get home from church service; I know I said I would. I want to start using the appropriate forums to post since this is supposed to be an introduction, so I will come back here and let everyone know when I post those pictures and where.
