Best age for hard boiled eggs

Fresh eggs do not do well as hard boiled eggs because the shell sticks SO badly. Older eggs work best, but how old do they need to be for the shell to come off nice and easy in large pieces?

mine start to get better at 2 weeks and are best at 4weeks....but I've also noticed a difference in my breeds. EE eggs are hard to peel until they're about a month old...geesh! My AzilXWelsummer peels good even if only 1week old.

I remember reading about tricks like vinegar and stuff but don't remember them. I just boil them whenever, and crack them in half, and use a spoon to scoop them out.

i love to watch paula deen on food network. she says putting salt in the water just as it starts to boil helps make peeling eggs easier.

I did that thing the other day with very fresh eggs (like 2 days old) where you crack them a little first, then drop them into boiling water, cover, boil 10 minutes, put in cold water. It worked like a charm. I made them into deviled eggs, and boy were they good! Those eggs peeled just as easy as month-old grocery store eggs!
