Best all flock feeds??

Ducks lay BIG eggs, I think they tend to do well on a higher protein feed. For ducks in particular, oats are recommended as a way of cutting the protein in feed. You can get a 50lb bag of oats at the feed store for about $10.

Right my duck eggs are large, of course. But I've gotten a few much much larger, double yolk eggs, which is due to too high of protein. So sounds like I can just cut the feed with some oats and be good to go in order to lower protein! Thank you

I've retired to a third-world nation, the Republic of Panama. Of all the things I miss about home (the States), what I miss the most is the wide variety of options in just about anything you may want or need. I've learned to make, make do, or do without; and I am still happy with my decision to live here. I had to make my own white-flour tortillas for some of my Mexi-Cali recipes for nearly five years before they started carrying them in the grocery stores here; corn tortillas were available, just not flour tortillas. Just saying... options are sometimes hard to come by here. I'd never had chickens before living here so didn't know what was wrong as my hens would be 'healthy' for a year, year and a half, and then drop dead or get so sick that I'd have to put them out of their misery. I've spent countless hours doing online research about my birds and their needs.

There is a member OZexpat.... hes been gone a couple of years now. but He Setup his Coop in the Philippines. He Buys the raw ingredients and mixes his own.... From what he can buy locally.

He is a Cardiatric Nurse and very very well educated... He did huge amounts of research on Feeds and what was needed and what was available. And posted an Article on the research.... I will seee if I can find it since his link doesnt work any more. He also vaccinated all his birds.... A force of nature ...

Weirdly enough, my ducks love wild bird seed. They get seriously excited about it. There is much singing and running when the tray comes out. My boys pick at the layer pellets, but I don't see them eating it much. They tend to mow my lawn, eat the seeds and hunt bugs and snails. My girls love their seeds and pellets. All ducks get daily doses of romaine lettuce, tomatoes, watermelon and mealworms. Mealworms are also an event with louder singing and dancing.

We seem to have struck a balance with feed, and because of their love of seeds, we don't buy as much pellet. Our girls lay huge eggs (well, the Rouen lays decently sized eggs when she lays) with hard shells and meaty yolks. Our friends love them.
