best and worst times of year to hatch

A friend of ours here in North Texas had a bad experience with mid-summer hatching last year; several chicks died from a mite infestation before he noticed the problem in his nests. He told me mites tend to be less of a problem earlier in the spring. This year, he's planning to be finished with his hatching by early May. I'm followin his example, and I'm also obsessively cleaning out the nestboxes and changing bedding.

It depends on where you live and what kind of facilities you have plain and simple. Time your hatches for the best weather like some have said it gets too hot to cool the chicks it's easier to add heat when it's cool but again some places get too cold. Think about when you want the chicks to go out or if you're raising them for meat when you want to butcher the "best time" just depends on your desires....

thanks for starting the thread Amy! this was great... well I would still like to hatch at least once more
