Well, I'm thinking of giving egg incubation a shot. Many of the breeds I'm interested in are mainly available as hatching eggs, and I'd like to raise some rare breeds to have extras to trade or sell locally.
I have a fair amount of experience with egg incubation. I raise reptiles, and built a homemade incubator out of an old wine cooler. Instead of cooling, the unit has heat rope wound around the inside, with a programmable thermostat that can get the temperature within 1/10 of a degree. It also has an optional "night drop" feature that can lower the temp at night.
Would a unit like this be sufficient for incubating chicken eggs? How hard is it to have a successful incubation (I'm going to imagine that it's easier than most reptiles)? Can anyone share a good basic "How to" website that details the process?
Thanks!
