best bedding for chicks

i am about to buy some chicks and i have a couple eggs in the incubator plus a broody hen as of yesterday so i should have a constant supply of chicks. but i have never had them befor so my question is what is the best thing to put in the floor of my homemade brooder.

I use pine shavings with paper towels on top for the first couple days till they figure out what is food and what is not. Then I remove them and just use pine shavings.

We get the pine bedding at Walmart for 2.90 It fills a nice sized rabbit cage.

I have used paper towels both with and without shavings. I prefer without, and do this for about 5 days.

Then I switch to pine shavings. I have also bought them at walmart, but the feed store is much cheaper.
