Best Bedding For Chicks?

I'm just trying to visualize washing all those poopy towels. Do you have a method to reduce how much poop gets run through the washer? I kinda like the idea of towels for the little birds and in the nesting box but need to get past the "picture is worth a thousand words" thing.
Heehee! I actually scoop/shake the droppings into a composting container. I don't want any solid waste going into my washer. I add a very small amount of bleach to the towels (thus the choice of white) and wash/dry on hot. It works really well, and everything stays clean (laundry room included)!

-was really adorable seeing the wee chicks huddle up on a warm towel straight from the dryer!
*also, I keep the "chicken towels" in a separate stack in the linen closet. All of their white ones are in one. All of the colored ones to match the bathrooms are in another.)

Gonna try that next go-round (I can't even believe I'm considering another round so soon) haha.

I use puppy pee pads or shavings in the brooder. I buy packs of puppy pads at Dollar Tree. $1 for a 4 pack. Change daily. After they get bigger I switch to shavings and elevate the water and food. Works great.

My husband would KILL me if I put poopy towels in the washer

He would insist I throw them away and buy new ones. (even the 'dog towels'.....he would prefer if I take them to the laundromat)

I used the puppy pee pads after the paper towels since I had some left over from my dog. I had two brands, one was fine and the other had some covering on it that was loose enough for the chicks' toenails to stick to. That made a big mess and they drug it across the floor. That's when I went to the pine shavings and had the biggest dust mess in my house. Then they got upgraded to the coop. Was worried because they were so too young and we were having the first cold snap of the year, but they have done just fine.

My husband shot me the funkiest glare when I threw down a towel in the brooder the first time. After he saw that they were folded and removed, taken outdoors, dumped into the compost container, and thoroughly "de-pooped", he was fine with my idea. After a bleach, wash, and dry, there was no evidence that chickens had been near the towel! My DH was shocked that chickens were actually IN the house (brooder) to begin with..... He was more than happy to begin coop construction!
