Best Bedding To Be Used With Baby Chicks????

I start my chicks on paper towels(no newspaper) this gives them the chance to recognize their feed before switching to shavings.Pine shavings are fine,no cedar shavings they can cause respiratory issues. I also after 2-3 weeks switch to washed construction grade sand,chicks love it.

We're using sand for our first time raising chicks. So far, so good! We occasionally use a kitty litter scoop to
sift the sand clean, though we have heard that a reptile scoop has smaller holes and that might actually work
better. We've also noticed that any of the chick feed that is spilled or tipped over is easily found by the chicks--no waste! Our idea is that the sand will hold some of the heat from the red light, as our brooder is outside in a screen porch and it's been getting down to 40-50 degrees at night. In the summer, we're hoping the sand inside a coop will remain cool, with no sun to warm it up.

We are using sand in our brooder.  Peeps are 4 days old and seem very happy!  It's easy to scoop out and keep clean, stays warm under the light and the girls are already scratching and dust bathing in it!
