Best beginner chicken

What do you guys think is the best beginner chicken it will be strictly egg laying.

we started with hatchery golden comets.... they've been hardy, we only lost one that was a day old chick, they lay like no bodies business and they're very friendly and cheap to buy.... here in Nova Scotia, they're 1.99 each and sexed as pullets when you buy them. On the whole a great way to get started without major investment. We've been at it for 2 years now and I haven't lost any more. Now, I've moved on to other heritage breeds like delaware, RIR, NHR, Wyandottes, orpintons etc... but the comets are still my best layers.
