Best blue egg layer

Cream Legbars lay very pretty blue eggs but they are not large. A friend of mine crosses the Cream Legbars with White Leghorns and the females they produce lay large blue eggs. They are called Sapphires. Not sure if the hatcheries produce this type of Sapphires tho. :hmm

Hello! I would love to know how your friend crossed/bred these birds to make their “Sapphire” hens. Was the combination they used a Cream Legbar Roo with a Leghorn hen or a Leghorn Roo with a Cream Legbar hen? Or does it not matter and either combo works? Thanks in advance for your time!

I'd forgotten about this thread... Curious if the OP ever found a blue layer they liked...

I've had true Ameracaunas, Prairie Bluebells, and Cream Legbar who all produced nice, true blue eggs. I also hatched ONE Blue Isbar but he ended up being a (splash) rooster. I kept him just for the genetics. Some say their (Isbar) eggs are green but my blue egg layers who've been mated to this guy have turned out hens who lay a turquoise blue egg with speckles.

Still haven't purchased any Arkansas Blues but I probably would if I ever come across some for sale.
