Best breed around kids

On RIR's, I think there is a lot of difference between hatchery and good breeder chicks, hatchery being much more likely to be hostile. I have had some bad RIR roos.

All mine are hatchery. I have had a lot more success with taming Australorps than BO's. JME.

Our RIR hen well tolerates being picked up and carried by our 4yo son.

Discussion of suitability of children with chickens at all might not belong on this thread, although I will say that he is learning responsibility from dealing with the chicken chores.

Our cochins do great around the kids. They pick them up and carry them around all the time.
