Best breed choice for "friendly" rooster

@DreamsInPink I had a nasty BO roo! Ugh

But that's the thing, everyone has had nice ones and mean ones of every breed. Some are nasty if you handle them frequently as chicks, some aren't. Who knows what makes a nice roo? I think its a crap shoot. You have a 25% chance of getting a nice roo from a chick IMO. My thoughts are to get a roo as an adult, that is already proven to be decent.

That said...I would never totally trust a roo around kids. And make sure you have a back up plan if your roo ends up nasty. Its hard to rehome them as there are so many roos out there. Are you prepared to cull him if need be?
Every rooster I have is "nice". Would completely trust them with any child old enough not to handle them roughly. 100%. All of them. Of course they have been selected for ease of human handling for thousands of years, instead of how quick they grow, how many eggs they lay, or what weird genetic defect they have that makes them "cute". I sell a lot expressly for pets, to people that are familiar with my type of birds, because they know that they can trust them for all the years of their life, which is 20 or so.

I hope I am in the right topic are for this post...

I am getting ready to start my flock, just waiting for the coop. I want to have everything preplanned before I purchase, including my rooster(we have a lot of local predators...coyotes, neighborhood dogs, and hawks, etc.). I also have kids, and would prefer a breed that can be friendly to people, but still protective from animals. I have been looking at several breeds for a rooster, and I wondered what others would recommend.

I have been interested in getting a Phoenix rooster, because of course they are stunningly gorgeous, but I haven't found any notes anywhere as to how tameable they are. I also have considered a Wyandotte, and the Golden Laced Polish. I am not sure if I can go with any breed I want, or if there are particular breeds that tend to be better "pets" . Any suggestions?

Oh, and whatever we get will be "my baby"(spoiled and frequently cuddled).

I'll tell ya...I have 20 hens... My kids hand raised a lot of our chicks.

We have: Brahma, Buff Orphington, Black Sex Link, Silver Laced Wyandotte, and many others.

TOP PICK: Silver-Laced Wyandotte hens are sweeties...at least mine is. You will not be let down. at your feet and loves to be held:

Buff Orphington and my Black Sex Link are in 2nd place. little lovers..

My Brahma's like to keep to themselves...no cuddling with them :)

Silver - Laced Wyandotte #1 for me in Michigan

Silver-Laced Wyandotte hens are awesome. I have Brahma's, Buff Orphington,

I used to have a huge, and I mean huge RIR rooster that loved to fight. He bullied every dog in the neighborhood till I clipped one of his wings so he couldn't fly out of the fenced yard.
I thoroughly enjoyed our weekly sparring matched.
I did have to cull him when he refused to allow the Realtors to show my house, and had a prospective buyer pinned face first against the wall screaming and crying.
I don't have any small children or small grandchildren near by so I don't care how mean my six week old Buff Brahma decides to be.
And if he tries to dominate my dog, that I hate anyway, that should be interesting.
